Golf in Vale do Lobo
Vale do Lobo is the home to two of the most challenging yet stunningly beautiful golf courses in Portugal – The Royal Course and The Ocean Course – Vale do Lobo hosted the Portuguese Open in both 2002 and 2003. Both courses are based on original concepts by the legendary late Sir Henry Cotton and have spectacular sea views and some tight narrow fairways heavily lined with pines. The Royal Course
The Royal Course is one of Europe’s most acclaimed golf courses. Concern to preserve the environment’s natural beauty has played a significant part in the course design, with wild flowers and natural pine forests surrounding lakes and sandy bunkers. It is the Royal Course that includes the world famous 16th. par 3, best known as ‘the most photographed golf hole in Europe’. It necessitates a strong and accurate drive in order to carry the two indents in the red sandstone cliffs and reach the green. Other outstanding holes are the 7th. and 9th. which offer glorious lakeside views.

The Ocean Course
The Ocean Course is equally as challenging and situated on the very edge of the coastline allowing golfers to play alongside some of the most incredible ocean views in the Algarve. Flanked by pine and eucalyptus trees, this par 71 course is part links with gently undulating fairways leading down to the shores of the Atlantic.
